3 things

Hi guys! Are you having a nice week? I hope so! Mine started with heavy rain, but today it was sunny and warm, so I went shopping for the last Christmas presents I still needed.
Anyway, these are three things I've done lately:
1. My boyfriend and I went to our favourite Japanese restaurant and had a lovely dinner of ramen, yakisoba and sushi <3

smash monday?

Hi guys! I know, Sunday's just passed, but it's been quite a while since I last showed you some of my pages in the smashbook, so why not take this empty Monday afternoon to do so?
These are the pages I made after Florence's concert, and I promise I'll try not to dwell on it too much..

Christmas mail~

Hi guys! The past few weeks have been a little bit sad in terms of mail as I found out that a lot of the Christmas cards I sent out quite a while ago haven't arrived yet to their recipient and by all chances got lost. Also, some of my penpals messaged me to ask me if I received their parcels/letters and still, by all chances those also got lost somewhere.
I was feeling really bitter for that, hence the lack of updates, but anyway that's a risk that us snailmailers must be prepared to take, right?
So without further ado, I'll show you what I've received and sent lately!

I got three postcards from: Amit, Kaira and Penny, respectively from India, Indonesia and Brasil.
I love how colourful they all are! Not to mention the stamps..

Are you looking for a penpal? III

Guys! I'm really excited today to post an ad of one of my own penpals: Kelly!

source (x)
My name is Kelly and am a 22 year old hair stylist living in Chicago.

I am looking for pen pals from all over the world that are near my age. :D

Some things I like to do are reading, watching movies, playing video games, taking photographs, and hanging out with my cats.

To contact me shoot me an email: Kellyjost@gmail.com

I can personally guarantee you that she's lovely and her letters are always super cute and fun to read!
Just take a peek at these:

Well, good luck Kelly! :)

festive friday III

Well hello guys! Happy weekend, how are you?
Is the Christmas spirit all over you already? My family will decorate the tree tomorrow, so for now the closest I've gotten to Christmas is through ALL the pictures that everyone's posting on Instagram of their trees, stockings, garden decorations and all that jazz, plus the lighting's they put in the streets of my town, of course!
Anyway, for you who are more festive than me, here the freebies for this week:

click here to download (20MB zip file)
As usual, let me know if you like them and don't forget to check out the other "festive fridays" if you haven't already: here and here.
I also want to apologise as I dont' know what I've messed up in the code of the theme, but nothing is working as it should (like the tags, or the comments!) but I'll try to fix it as soon as I can!

Have a lovely day,

3 things

Hi guys! How are you? How's December so far? Here it's been freezing cold and we had a storm every other day, which led to flooding that caused roads collapses - crazy stuff. On the other hand, the Christmas spirit is beginning to be felt as all the shops decorated their windows, the streets have been embellished with themed lighting etc and I'm already racking my brain to sort out the Christmas presents for my family but I'm sure I'll end up buying most of them on the 24th as usual :(

Anyway here's what I've been doing lately:

1. I've been giving another go to digital painting, trying to reproduce that sketch I did last night. This is what I've done so far, but there's still a looot more to do. (I don't know if you can tell but the first frame of the gif is just so so bad, lol).

it's time for some mail!

Hi guys! Let me start off by saying thank you to all of you who still stick around despite my lack of mail-related updates. I'm super lazy and forgetful and it's a deadly comb; But anyway, today's the day I finally update you all on my mail :)
Let's begin!
Have you ever cried while reading a letter? I mean tears of joy. I did, a couple of times, but this one time was the best. My friend Khris from Spain, sent me a letter (well, actually letters - 5 of them!) and I swear I wish you could all read them because what she wrote, and how she wrote it.. is freaking pure bliss.

On a side note, she also sent me some delicious tea that made my reading even more lovely, and some music themed stickers to wish me to have a great time at the concert :')
Then I got mail from Nastya in Russia, who sent me a wonderful pic of her hometown:

3 things

Hello guys!
Even though a week has passed, I'm still thrilled about last Tuesday concert, when I got to see Florence + the Machine live in Milan.
I honestly cannot express how many emotions I felt that night, as Florence's music touches me in a very unique way.
Moreover, I don't think to exaggerate when I say she's incredible on stage, not only because of her powerful voice and the notes she's able to reach, but also because her presence can light up a stadium filled with 10k people, which is quite an hard task.
For the whole duration of the concert she jumped from side to side of the stage, greeted us and thanked us many many times, and she was just so flawless whenever she danced and pirouetted on tiptoes.
I still can't get over it, it has been definitely the best concert I've attended so far (sorry Placebo, it wasn't easy for me to admit you've been overcame).

So today's 3 things are all about the concert, I hope you don't mind!

1. I shot this video during the last song they played, Dog Days Are Over, and I'm watching it over and over again because I'm obsessed with it.

smash sunday + giveaway!

Hi guy, happy Sunday! I hope those of you who celebrate Thanksgiving had an amazing day on Thursday, and that the rest of you are enjoying your almost holidays :)
Today I'm back with pictures of my smash* which aren't exactly great quality but still you should be able to get an idea of the pages I did lately.

Those pages I'm showing you, are dedicated to my friend Kelly, the penpal who visited me earlier in October:

On this side of the page, I glued her latest letter in which she told me about the rest of the trip in Italy, what she did/liked etc and a picture of the lovely gifts she brought me from Chicago: a t-shirt and a shot glass with the city skyline!
Also I have to say, the letter was sealed with a gorgeous wax seal she got in Florence. However when it came, it was already half damaged and I wasn't able to remove it safely to keep it intact.. so yeah I'm a mess! But trust me, it was pretty rad.

festive friday

Hi guys! I've been receiving tons of messages asking me to start posting Christmas/Holiday related printables, and since I'm a good girl and I want you to be happy, I'm slowly (because guys, I'm not that into Christmas tbh.. shock horror!) starting to make something that I'll be posting for the next couple of weeks.
Today, here you have a wintery note card to send to all your friends! :)

Click here to download (1.6MB pdf file) [hats & gloves illu credits: zcool.com.cn]
This is how it looks printed out:

The back is red and had a little space to fill with "from" and "date", and of course plenty of space inside to fill with your holiday wishes.

Hope you like it!

3 things

Hi guys! While you're reading this, I'm hopefully standing in line to get into the venue of Florence + The Machine concert that I've been waiting to attend since this June! How are you doing?
This week I've been doing pretty random things, such as:

1. Watching Donnie Darko because both my boyfriend and I, love it. It's an awesome movie, if you haven't watched it yet, you're missing something, trust me!

November mail week #2

Hi guy! How was your mail week?
Mine was very good as I received lots of lovely letters :3 but let me show you!
First letter of the week was this one from Marysza in Poland:

She also sent me some Polish stamps, a wooden arrow, and (not pictured) a wooden "F" and the cutest snail rubber stamp, which I'll soon stamp like crazy over every letter I send!
Next was Kelly's from Canada; how I missed her letters!

are you looking for a penpal? II

Hi guys! As I've mentioned a few days ago, I'll be posting here the penpal requests I receive from time to time.
Today, let me introduce you to Helen from the UK!

source (x)
I'm Helen, I'm 24 and live in England.
I'm looking for penpals who write long, creative letters and maybe people to swap ATCs with too! :) It doesn't matter where you're from, as long as you're near-ish my age and share some interests.
Amongst other things, I love: crafts, photography, doodling in my art journal, reading (everything), walking in the countryside, hot chocolate on cold days, traveling, day-dreaming, being on the beach and staring out to sea imagining where I could go...well I could go on but best to leave some things for letters :)
You can see a bit more about me at my tumblr address, which is tomatopincushion - it's a little mish mash of me! To contact me, my email is sparklingsnowflakes@hotmail.co.uk
Can't wait to meet some lovely new people!
Good luck Helen! And I hope you all are having a lovely week :)

Ps: Ria is holding a very nice contest on her blog Mallard Trail Mail - check it out! All you have to do in order to win is decorating a Christmas tree, sounds like fun uh?

3 things

Hello guys, how are you doing?
The weather here is super crazy, one day is freezing cold, the other is almost as hot as it was back in august :/  Why can't we just have a snowy, normal winter here?!
Speaking of that, the first thing I've been doing lately is:

1. I've been spending the time between classes getting warm under the sun in the garden of my University - which is a really nice place, even tho students are not supposed to stop there, but only passing by to get to their classes.

Are you looking for a penpal?

Hi guys! Since I very often receive email from people looking for new snail mail friends, that ask me if I can get them in touch with my penpals or if I know someone who would like to be penpal with them and so on,  I thought that now and then when I will receive those kind of requests, I will make a post about it, so that their request will be easily heard from more people :)

The first person to submit a request is Erica from Finland who decided to write it on paper:

I do still receive and write letters!

Hi guys! The mail related posts are eventually back after a hiatus due to some technical difficulties with my camera memory card etc...
During this time, I've sent and received quite a few nice letters, but unfortunately, for the above mentioned reasons, I couldn't take pictures of all of them.
The letters I sent that won't be pictured were for: Maddie in the UK, Ria in Romania, Thea in Norway and Emily in Sweden.
Then I sent a fat envelope to Ann-Marie in Scotland of "a day in the life" swap :)

3 things

Hi guys! How's November started for you?
Mine OK, since here we have a holiday on the 1st, which this year fell on a Thursday becoming a looong holiday for the whole weekend :)

Anyway, that's what I've done lately:

1. I finally watched Dark Shadows, hence the awesome sketch above. Let me say that I'm a huge fan of Tim Burton works, but this movie.. meh. It wasn't exactly what I thought, and the plot was a bit too obvious and dragged, in my opinion. If you've watched it too, did you liked it?
Anyway I can forgive him, as I'm sure Frankenweenie is going to be awesome, but I still have to watch it, so I'll let you know another day!

3 things

Hello guys! How are you today?
Here where I live is getting really cold and I'm constantly sneezing, but apart from that I'm doing OK.
Last week I found a small sketching moleskine on my shelf, that I didn't even remember buying (because I always stock up on notebooks but never actually get the chance to use them..). Anyways, I got pretty excited and literally used it everyday since, trying to A) drawing people/stuff from memory (because I'm completely unable to draw without a reference, what a pro!) B) trying to improve with portraits. The 3 things for today are three sketches I made, which aren't complete rubbish :)

1. I tried to draw Florence from memory, and failed as you can see. However if you don't consider that I was trying to draw her, I think it's not too bad for a 2 mins sketch.

smash sunday

Hello guys! How's your Sunday? I'm writing you from my boyfriend's place, so at least I'm in good company today :3
Last week I hadn't posted a Smash Sunday because.. well, actually I just forgot about it to be honest, but I haven't today, so that's good I guess!

When Katie gave me this Smashbook, she explicitly wrote me that it would have been perfect to scrapbook about my mail and penpals, so a while ago I decided that I would have used some pages for this purpose. The first page I made is dedicated to my American penpal Marisa:

freebie friday XVII

Hello guys! No Halloween themed freebies (which you find here & here) this friday because it has been quite a week for me and didn't have time to work on anything, so today I'm giving you something I created out of Marysza's suggestion:

I don't know why a pastel rain should fall on a fox, but still, I think it's cute :)
Hope you enjoy it!

The Travelling Notebook is back!

Hello guys!
I'm here today with a big news: the Travelling Notebook came home to me this morning, so exciting! All the girls involved in the project did a great job, and that thin blank notebook, is now a chunky little work of art.

Before I show you the final -amazing- result, here's a recap of the project:
there were 6 participants (including me), from 6 different European countries, and the task was to fill 8 pages each: two pages about the author, two about their country/city, and the remaining with their own art.

3 things

Hello guys, hope you're having a great week.
Mine started with a storm and cold wind, which are making me feel sick, but still, last week was reeeally nice instead.
On Thursday, I got to spend a lovely afternoon with my penpal Kelly and her friends, all the way from Chicago!
It was honestly one of the best experiences ever! It was my first time meeting someone from America and I was really worried at the beginning; I was afraid that my English wouldn't have been enough to sustain a conversation and things like that, but already after two minutes with her I felt so much better and everything went smoothly :)
Another thing I was worried about were awkward silences, but contrarily to my expectation, we had so many things to tell each other that there was no space for them!

Anyway, moving on to the three things, these are the things I enjoyed the most that day :)

1. We got some really good gelato.

blackout poetry

Hello guys, no smash Sunday today because I was working on a page, but all of a sudden my inspiration faded and I haven't touched the SMASH ever since.
Anyway, I still felt like writing about something today, which happens to be blackout poetry.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with it, it consists in redacting the words in a text (newspaper, old book pages, etc) with a marker, leaving behind only a few words to make a poem.
I've always been fascinated with it, as it also follows the "destroy to create" leitmotif, which I'm a big fan of!

I gave it a try lately; most of my "poems" are rather boring or trivial, but I kinda like one of them.
Before I show you mine, here some of my favourite by Kevin Harrell:

october mail week #2

Hello guys. This week I haven't sent much mail; Uni just started again and I needed a bit of time to organise my textbooks, classes etc, but taking advantage of this boring weekend I'm starting to replying to some of the letter I received this week.
Anyway, this week two postcards went out, one for Amit in India, and the other for Penny in Brazil!

3 things tuesday

Hello guys, today it finally feels like Autumn is behind the corner: the air is chilly, the sky is cloudy,  it isn't rainy weather yet but you can smell it in the air ahem, it just started raining.
Anyway, I'm not going to post 3 things I've done lately because, ugh, besides being in bed and going to the gym I haven't done anything interesting.
This post will be more likely about 3 things I like about Fall :)
source (x)
1.  The cosy feel of everything. (I know it's a weird thing to say, but Autumn just inspires me a sense of warmth and cosiness..)

postcards in my mailbox

Hello guys, how did your week begin?
Saturday, I forgot to post y incoming mail for the week, so here it is instead:
I've been loving those postcards I received respectively from Nicole in China for a private swap, my postcard pal Amit in India, and from "Morning" in China (she didn't signed with her name), a lovely girl who tagged me on postcrossing for an hand drawn postcard.

Nicole's postcard shows an old map of the various provinces of China, and I love its vintage look. Amit's one shows in a very fun way the various type of turbans that are used in India, and he also wrote about their meaning, and it was really interesting to learn!

smash sunday

Hello my dears!
Wut, it's sunday again? Time moves too fast in my opinion!
Oh, anyway.. this week for the SMASH* sunday I'm going to show you a sort of "filler" page, which isn't exactly anything special, but still, here it is:

I've titled it the "music archive 2008/2012" (my titling skill never fails me!).

freebie friday XVI

Hello friends! During my giveaway I received A LOT of lovely suggestions for new stationery freebies and I selected the ones I like the most and (slowly~) startedto work on them.
For this week I've created something along Penny's suggestion:
I don't know you but I love the old school Pacman game, so I decided to use it as theme.

october mail week 1

Good afternoon guys!
Have you sent many letters this week? Me, not really, just a few. I'm a little behind with some replies but I have to sort out some Uni stuff before the semester begins, so it might take a while.
Anyways, that's what went out:
A letter to Elisse (whenever I write this, I can't help but singing this song in my head, lol) in Belgium, which looks quite Italian with the little Vespa on the envelope and the man on the stamp (which according to wikipedia was a famous Italian tenor).

Tuesday, 2 October 2012

3 thing tuesday

Hi guys :) How did your week begin?
Mine's okay so far and I spent the past days mostly drawing, focusing on an illustration I titled Demon Girl. (I'm sooo good at titles, woah).
1. It all started one night while I was listening to Bat For Lashes and sketched this.

Sunday, 30 September 2012

smash sunday

Good afternoon guys :)
I'm writing this post about today's SMASH* pages with glistening eyes because they bring such sweet memories back, so don't mind me if I get emotional later on!
Anyhow, I feel like this post need a little back story, so here you go:
I have a pin board above my bed with a lot of travel mementos pinned on it, but one day I woke up and decided I wanted to keep my memories somewhere else, as keeping some of them under my eyes everyday didn't feel right anymore. So, what place better than my SMASH*?

llamas in my mailbox!

Hello again, friends :)
Once again, I've received lots of beautiful mail this week from my lovely friends, so let me show you!
Do I see llamas on that envelope? Heck yes, ha! This letter is from Elisse in Belgium, and she always send me cute paper bits. For this letter she also made her very own stationery with cute, fluffy owls, and sent me an old postcard, a troll illustration, and a baggie of stickers :)
